I buy my beef and chicken from two great guys at our local farmers market. But I was in search of turkeys and pork, so I went looking online.
www.eatwild.com is a site that connects you with farmers that sell grass-fed and grass-finished meats, pastured animals and heritage breeds in your area. Many of these farmers also offer [...]

Prickly Pear Fruit
My parents have a small farm in rural South Carolina where we spend our Thanksgiving. At one time, this was a full working farm. My parents don’t live there full time now, so they just let things grow that are already there. I’m lucky that there are tons of things that don’t need tending –just [...]

Bok Choy for the sinuses!
I’ve never cooked Bok Choy before and never even considered buying it. But once again our CSA has opened me up to new veggies. I found the recipe below and it is FANTASTIC! I put way too much ginger in (I never measure) and my sinuses were cleared instantly! WOW! SPICY!
If you’re looking for gluten-free, [...]

Fun with Turnips
Our Fall CSA has started and every week we get another bunch of turnips. I had never cooked with them before, so they sat in the fridge until I was faced with 2-3 pounds of turnips asking me to not let them go to waste. I hit the web in search of a recipe. I [...]

Recipe of the Week: Fall Soup
I hosted a brunch this past weekend and planned on making the following recipe. Can you believe that the Harris Teeter wasn’t selling canned pumpkin? AT ALL! I even had the manager walk me around the store. All they sold was canned pumpkin pie mix (right next to the pre-made pecan pie mix–people are so [...]

A dash of chemicals with your raisins?
If you have a food allergy, assume nothing is safe. I made oatmeal raisin cookies last night for my husband. He doesn’t have any food allergies that we know of –lucky dog! I used regular SunMaid brand raisins. The box says nothing about sulfides or sulfates, but most run-of-the-mill raisins are treated with these chemicals [...]

Recipe of the Week-Kale
This summer, we signed up for a local farm’s CSA and look forward to the start of the fall crops! Over the summer we enjoyed many vegetable favorites, but it also gave us the chance to try veggies that we hadn’t cooked before. Kale was one of them. I’m now hooked.
Here’s the recipe that I [...]

Fun with substitutes
I haven’t met a recipe that I couldn’t change. No matter what it is, there are ingredients that can be substituted to make them safe for a person with food allergies. And usually the substitutes are better for everyone–not just folks with allergies.
My latest experiment was with Key Lime Pie. The average recipe calls for [...]

Recipe of the week
I’m up to my eyeballs in summer crops! Here is a recipe that I tried this week–it’s fast, simple and tastes great. The only downfall is that it’s not made for folks avoiding nightshade vegetables. All the other ingredients could be modified for wheat-free or milk-free diets –shoot me a message if you’d like those versions.

New website
I just signed on with Homestead.com to set up my website. Right now the URL is www.livingwithwellness.homestead.com but I’m going to buy a site name and it will change to www.livingwithwellness.net. The .com was taken but it’s not a real site, just someone buying up domain names to make a buck.
The site is a work in [...]
